Presentation

The Graduate Program in History (PPGH) of the Federal University of Goiás is one of the oldest in the country. In 1972, with the creation of the master's degree course, it inaugurated the Graduate Program in History outside the Southeast and in the Mid-West of Brazil. In 2003, it started its doctorate course. It graduated more than 500 masters and doctors who today work in numerous Brazilian institutions. Its Faculty Members has 36 professors, 5 of whom are CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) researchers.

PPGH is characterized by an open conception of history and the humanities and a permanent multidisciplinary effort. This characteristic is evident in the diversity of the areas in which its faculty operates and is institutionally inscribed in the plurality and dynamism of its Laboratories and Research Centers. It is also reflected in the organization of the Program, which is composed of a concentration area (Culture, Borders and Identities) and four lines of research: 1) History, Memory and Social Imaginaries; 2) Power, Sertão (Outback) and Identities; 3) Borders, Interculturalities and History Teaching; 4) Ideas, Knowledge and Writings of [and in] History.

The internationalization effort of the Program is attested by the intense circulation of foreign researchers at UFG, by the numerous research missions, joint publications, teaching and post-doctoral internships carried out by its professors abroad or by foreign professors at PPGH. Likewise, the Program strongly encourages its students to undertake internships abroad (in the form of sandwich degree scholarships and co-tutoring). In addition, it has numerous cooperation agreements with foreign universities in Germany, Argentina, Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay.

PPGH considers its integration with undergraduate studies strategic in order to strengthen the link between teaching and research and to encourage the training of future researchers. The members of its faculty work in undergraduate courses and most of them guide scientific initiation projects.

In its last four-year evaluation (2013-2016), PPGH obtained concept 5 - "Very Good" - from the Ministry of Education through the Coordinator for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).
