Research Centers

PPGH professors coordinate 11 (eleven) research centers at UFG. The relationship between the research centers and the Program is fundamental as these spaces contribute to the elaboration and realization of research.

The Center for Indian and Indigenous Studies (NEIN) is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Leandro Mendes Rocha of PPGH. It develops research related to indigenism in Latin America. It is registered in the CNPq Research Directory and works with an interdisciplinary team that involves historians, anthropologists, linguists and pedagogues from several institutions. It participates in the degree of Licentiate in Intercultural (Indigenous) Education at UFG. This center aggregates professors linked to the research line Borders, Interculturalities and History Teaching, whose publications are associated to this area of interest.

The Center for Studies and Research in Contemporary History (NEHPC), coordinated by PPGH professors João Alberto Costa Pinto and David Maciel, is linked to the Research Group: Capitalism and History, registered in the CNPq research groups directory. The NEPHC has as its institutional procedure the organization of events, thematic symposia and other activities of the Group of Marxism and History Studies (GEMH) and the offer of courses and extension projects centered on approaches to Marxisms in the 19th and 20th centuries, on the dynamics of capitalist societies and on historiographic discussion. It promotes an annual cycle of debates involving undergraduate and graduate students, which results in the publication of the most relevant texts presented.

The Center for Studies on Heritage and Health Care Collection originated, in 2007, from the project "Rede Brasil". Health Cultural Heritage Inventory: buildings and collections", which consolidated the partnership between UFG and the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. Coordinated by PPGH professor Cristina C. P. Moraes, it had the participation of doctoral students, master's students and alumni from PPGH. The center carried out surveys (data and bibliography) and research on the cultural heritage of health (buildings and collections) in the old and new capital of the state of Goiás, respectively, city of Goiás and Goiânia. The result of the work developed, in the scope of the center, are publications of professors and students of PPGH and research projects directed to Undergraduate and Graduate Studies.

The Center for Studies in Ancient History has been operating at UFG since 2004, linked to the ANPUH-Brazil's Ancient History Working Group, and is currently coordinated by PPGH professors Ana Teresa Marques Gonçalves and Luciane Munhoz de Omena. It involves undergraduate and graduate students and develops research and studies related to Antiquity and Classics.

The Goiás Urban Studies Center is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Luís Sérgio Duarte da Silva. It brings together professors from various departments and colleges of UFG who carry out studies on urban issues. It develops a project about the city of Goiânia and the process of urbanization in Goiás, with interdisciplinary character. Dissertations and thesis defended in PPGH were elaborated based on the debates promoted inside this center.

The Sapientia: Center for Studies in Middle and Modern Ages is registered at CNPq and coordinated by Professor Dr. Armênia Maria de Souza. It is composed of professors and students from various institutions and from the undergraduate and graduate courses in History at UFG, Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás (PUC-GO), Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), State Secretariat of Education of Goiás (SEE-GO), Center for History, Society and Culture at the College of Arts (Literature), University of Coimbra (CHSC- FLUC/UC) and is open to the academic community in general, covering various areas of knowledge related to History and Philosophy in the Middle and Modern Ages.

Among the objectives of Sapientia, it aims to: 1) dialogue between students and professors-researchers, who develop academic research on Medieval and Modern societies; 2) constitute a locus for debates on texts and documents related to various research topics; 3) establish a dialogue between various knowledges, especially with the Theory and Methodology of History; 4) hold colloquia and national and international conferences and 5) expand the development of research from Scientific Initiation to Graduate Studies.

The Center for Global Studies (Neg), integrated by professor Carlo Pati, was born in 2014 to promote the research activities of professors and students of the course of International Relations of UFG and PPGH. Today, NEG has four lines of research: History and International Relations, Brazil in the World, International Political Economy and International Security.       The Center for Studies on Public Uses of History: Research and Experimentation (NUH) is composed of PPGH professors Ana Lúcia Vilela Oliveira, Ivan Lima Gomes, Rafael Saddi Teixeira and Roberto Abdala Jr. (coordinator). It acts on two main fronts: 1) research, reflect and seek to clarify how knowledge about the past circulates and how the public uses of story/History occur; 2) recognize, disseminate, develop and experience other possibilities of "using knowledge" of story/History and its writing in other languages and media, so that it can serve as guidance for practical life.

The Center for Studies of Anthropology, Heritage, Memory and Musical Expressions (NEAP), coordinated by Prof. Dr. Yussef Daibert Salomão de Campos, is a research group in the field of anthropology with emphasis on themes of cultural heritage, memory and museums. It aggregates studies of professors and students of the Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, which presuppose an interdisciplinary and/or transdisciplinary perspective, focused on the field of environmental history and intercultural processes. This center was created due to the existence of few studies in environmental history in the Midwest region of Brazil. The PPGH professors involved in the project understood the need for research in this field, both in terms of scientific production and the didactic offer of environmental education strategies. It is directly linked to the line Borders, Interculturalities and History Teaching. It promotes monthly meetings involving undergraduate and graduate students focused on theoretical discussions and ongoing research projects. The members of this Center participate in weekly activities in the schools of the municipal education network of the city of Goiânia, through the extension project REATIVAR: Agroecology and Interculturalities.
